SDUSD 2022-2023 ROOKIE of the YEAR

 August 2023

Dear Torrey Pines Elementary School Families,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! We are thrilled to welcome our students and staff back to school. We hope that you were able to relax and enjoy time with family and friends.  Summer break is a wonderful time to make memories with the ones we love most.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of our new families, whether you are joining us from another school in the district, or have relocated from another city, state, or country. We are excited to share with you all that Torrey Pines Elementary School has to offer and believe you will soon feel as we do, that TPES is a special place for all children. Our educators, support staff, and families are ready to welcome you into our school community.

Our incredible staff of educators has been in school throughout the summer to create a welcoming classroom environment for the new school year. Grade level teams have also met to prepare and plan rigorous and academically challenging curriculum, rooted in collaboration and critical thinking.  Their goal is to provide students with opportunities that foster academic success, as well as a true sense of connectedness and belonging with their peers.  Our office staff has worked tirelessly to finalize classes and grade level placements, and we are incredibly grateful to our custodial staff as they worked all summer getting our school in pristine shape.

Torrey Pines Elementary School is such a special place to learn and grow. We are proud of our school, and have high expectations for each and every student.  Our students are kind, compassionate, and eager to learn.  Together, with our dedicated staff, we strive to make connections with students to help them feel valued, accepted, safe, and heard. Our mission to provide a rigorous, joyful, and inclusive school environment is our number one priority.

Partnering with families is crucial to promote a healthy transition to school, both socially and emotionally.   We recognize that students may be feeling anxious with the start of a new school year and we will continue to place a strong emphasis on social emotional learning while focusing on building classroom community.  We encourage families to stay connected and informed by following our district website, weekly school bulletins through SMORE, and TPES Foundation E-twig messages. As always, we will look to our families to be positive partners in their children’s educational journey. The TPES staff has always made it a priority to  work together as a caring and compassionate learning community. We will always put the best interests of our students at the center of our purpose.

As always, my door is open and our team welcomes your input. Please feel free to contact me via email at the address below or call to make an appointment to speak with me to discuss any ideas you feel will make this the best year yet!
